Ava Was Blamed for Drawing Across an Irreplaceable Family Photograph — Then the Security Camera Showed Grandpa Robert Holding the Marker

Chapter 1 — “She Never Touched the Photograph”

Little Ava stood crying beside an old family photograph while Grandpa Robert held a box of markers.

A thick pink line had been drawn directly across the center of the picture.

The photograph showed Rachel as a child.

Her parents stood behind her.

Her older brother Michael sat on the porch steps.

And beside them was Rachel’s grandmother, Evelyn, smiling toward the camera.

It was one of Rachel’s favorite family photographs.

There were very few copies.

Robert held it up.

“Explain why you did this.”

Ava’s face crumpled.

“I didn’t.”

“You were coloring right here.”

“I didn’t touch it.”

Rachel stepped into the dining room.

She looked at the photograph.

Then at Ava.

Then at Robert.

“What happened?”

Robert pointed toward the pink mark.

“She drew across it.”

Ava shook her head desperately.

“No!”

Rachel crouched.

“Ava, were you using the pink marker?”

“Yes.”

Robert immediately nodded.

“Exactly.”

Rachel looked at him.

“Did you actually see her make that mark?”

Robert hesitated.

“She was sitting beside the photograph.”

“That’s not what I asked.”

Robert’s expression tightened.

“Nobody else was using markers.”

Ava wiped her face.

“Grandpa had them too.”

Robert looked sharply at her.

“Ava.”

The little girl flinched.

Then suddenly pointed toward the ceiling.

“Camera.”

Rachel looked up.

A security camera covered the dining room and kitchen entrance.

Robert’s expression changed.

Rachel noticed immediately.

She pulled out her phone.

“Good idea.”

“Rachel, this is unnecessary.”

She ignored him.

The footage began twenty minutes earlier.

Ava sat at the table coloring a birthday card.

The old photograph was several feet away.

She never touched it.

Then Ava left the room to get stickers.

Robert entered.

He picked up the photograph.

Then picked up the pink marker.

Rachel leaned closer to the screen.

Robert placed the photograph flat on the table.

His hand moved across it.

A thick pink line appeared.

He immediately froze.

Then tried rubbing the mark with a tissue.

That only smeared it.

Moments later, Ava returned.

Rachel paused the recording.

“She never touched the photograph.”

Robert’s face went pale.

Ava continued crying.

“I told you.”

Rachel slowly turned toward her father.

“Dad.”

Robert looked at the photograph.

Then whispered:

“I didn’t mean to draw on it.”

Rachel’s voice hardened.

“That’s not the problem anymore.”

She pointed toward Ava.

“You knew she didn’t do it.”
