Chapter 9 — The Cracked Phone Is Repaired
Vanessa eventually took the phone to a repair shop.
The technician replaced the screen.
Everything else worked perfectly.
When she brought it home, Noah inspected it.
“No crack.”
“No crack.”
“Shelf broke it.”
Vanessa smiled.
“The falling recipe holder broke it because the shelf was loose.”
Noah nodded seriously.
Details mattered.
Michael laughed from across the room.
Then Vanessa did something Noah did not expect.
She opened the security footage again.
“Want to see?”
Noah climbed beside her.
They watched the phone sitting alone.
The shelf moved.
The recipe holder slid.
Hit the phone.
Then later, Noah walked into the kitchen.
Vanessa paused it before the part where she accused him.
“See?”
Noah pointed.
“I didn’t do it.”
“You didn’t.”
Then Vanessa saved one short clip.
Michael noticed.
“Why are you saving that?”
“Reminder.”
“Of the bad shelf?”
“Of me being too sure.”
She did not plan to watch it constantly.
She didn’t need punishment.
She needed memory.
Because the dangerous moment had not been when the recipe holder fell.
It had been several minutes later…
when Vanessa saw Noah beside a broken object and decided proximity was proof.
